- May I join OKLUG?
- Of course! Please see our Resources page for details on how to join. (please see question below regarding children)
- When are meetings?
- OKC meetings are held on odd-numbered months, usually on the 3rd Saturday from 1pm-3pm. Locations change monthly so please check here or on Facebook for more detailed info.
- Tulsa meetings are held on even-numbered months, on a Saturday from 1pm-3pm. Locations change monthly so please check here or on Facebook for more detailed info.
- What happens at the meetings?
- Socializing, greeting and signing up new members
- Discussion of upcoming events, Lego Group and Lego Store news, ideas of all kinds, and any questions
- Show and tell for anyone that brings a MOC
- Draft event (bring sealed set and draft large lots of single parts to take home)
- Competition events (bring a MOC based on a theme to win gift cards and prizes!)
- The last meeting of the year, each group hosts their “Dirty Santa” Lego gift exchange. (November for OKC, December for Tulsa)
- May I bring my child (under 18) to a meeting or event?
- Sure. However, we are an adult-focused group, so we require that you stay with them for the entire meeting/event and that you make sure they are respectful while attending.
- May my child (under 18) be a member?
- Conditionally. Since this is an adult-focused group, we do accept children but only those of members. A parent must be an active member for their child to also be a member. Also, members under the age of 18 are not eligible for certain benefits. (for more information, please contact any Admin on the Facebook page)
- Do I have to attend every meeting to be a member?
- Not at all. We encourage as much participation as possible, but understand that you may only be able to attend a few a year. Each group (OKC and Tulsa) only meet 6 times a year for official meetings, but we also have smaller events and large conventions throughout the year, so even if you miss some meetings, there’s always plenty of other ways to be included!
- Do I have to create a custom creation to become a member of the group?
- Yes, to a point. This group is about creating with Lego, and although we do want to include as many AFOLs as possible, our events and meetings are all about showing our custom creations, discussing build ideas, encouraging each other to try new methods and even teaching courses on techniques. We host a large convention or two each year and our rules state that each member must have either a fully custom creation, or a heavily modified official Lego set to qualify to display with the group.
- What is a Draft event?
- Drafting is when each person brings a previously agreed-upon set (up to 2 maximum per person) and everyone participating will draft the parts from that set. Drafting parts is when every part that is the same (part and color) is separated into cups for selection. Once every part is separated, each participant will pick a number out of a hat. That number will determine what order they are allowed to pick their choice of parts in. Then #1 picks their single choice of parts first, then #2 and so on until it reaches the highest number, then it goes back down to #1. This repeats over and over until all the parts are gone. Whatever parts each participant chooses, they take home. It’s a wonderful way to get a lot of a part you really want, plus a great way to get to meet others in the group!
- What type of activities do you do in your group?
- Our group is made up of dozens of very creative people, so we try and participate in as many unique events throughout the year. We have monthly meetings (OKC group on odd-numbered months, Tulsa on even-numbered months), build events at local Lego stores like Bricksville and Bricks and Minifigs, contest building, draft events, Christmas gift exchange, games, field trips to Lego Store for AFOL Day, LUGBULK sorting party, charity donations, seed part challenges, and large event collaboration with other LUGs like ArkLUG and ULUG.
